JCP Kokuta condemns North Korea’s missile launch

April 6, 2017
Japanese Communist Party Diet Policy Commission Chair Kokuta Keiji on April 5 at a press conference held in the Diet building condemned North Korea’s ballistic missile launch early on the morning of this day.

Kokuta pointed out that North Korea’s repeated missile launches are evidently linked with its nuclear weapons development. Kokuta added that such an action is outrageous as it not only violates past resolutions of the UN Security Council, the Six-Party Talks joint statement, and the Japan-North Korea Pyongyang Declaration but also poses a grave threat to peace and safety in the world.

Kokuta said that the need is for the international community to urge North Korea to shift toward denuclearization through diplomatic negotiations, in addition to implementing economic sanctions strictly to intensify international pressure on the country.

Citing that the UN talks on a nuclear weapons ban treaty is of major significance, Kokuta stressed that as a measure to solve the North Korea issue, the illegalization of nuclear weapons with the N-ban treaty is important.
