JCP chair on Twitter protests 2nd US airstrike in Syria/Iraq

June 29, 2021
The U.S. Department of Defense on June 27 announced that it carried out airstrikes on facilities of Iran-backed militia groups located on the border between Syria and Iraq, ordered by President Joe Biden.

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on Twitter on June 28 strongly protested the airstrikes for "violating the UN Charter and international law".

It was the second aerial bombings called by the Biden administration against similar militias after the February strikes. Shii on Twitter pointed out that such a military approach "will only cause obstacles to global efforts to resolve regional problems, including the Iranian nuclear issue". He tweeted, "I strongly demand that the Biden administration seriously work toward diplomatic resolutions."
