JCP calls on Tokyo to cancel US forces’ participation in disaster drill

August 21, 2010
Japanese Communist Party Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly members on August 20 made representations to the metropolitan government urging it to cancel the participation of U.S. forces in its disaster drill scheduled to be held on August 29.

JCP representative Yoshida Nobuo stressed that the drill should focus on having municipalities, fire departments, and medical facilities learn how to cooperate with each other to save people when an earthquake occurs.

More than 4,500 people will take part in the disaster drill hosted by the metropolitan government. The U.S. forces are expected to join the public event for the fifth consecutive year by dispatching helicopters and amphibious ships to deliver necessary goods as well as other vessels to receive injured people in Tokyo Bay.
