JCP listens to needs of sex abuse victims in the film industry

September 14, 2023
The Japanese Communist Party Dietmembers' team dealing with the issue of sexual abuse in the entertainment industry on September 13 held a hearing in the Diet building with an organization working to eliminate acts of sexual offenses from the film and moving image industry.

JCP Upper House member Kira Yoshiko, the team leader, and JCP Lower House member Miyamoto Takeshi, the team chief secretary, took part in the hearing and listened to the demands of victims.

An actress, who is accusing a film director of sexual harassment, complained that persons who had been victimized in the past are being ignored. She demanded that a third-party organ to look into past sexual assaults be established. She emphasized the need to provide medical help to victims and to give a thorough education to police officers who would be the first persons whom victims may consult with.

Kira said, "In order to end sexual predation not only in Japan's largest talent agency Johnny & Associates but also in the overall entertainment industry, our party will work to increase counselling offices and remove the statute of limitation on sexual abuse in cooperation with people concerned."
