Shii comments on latest Kishida-Xi talks

November 18, 2023

Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida Fumio held talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on November 16 (November 17 Japan time) in San Francisco for the first time since they held talks last November.

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on November 17 on his X account made a comment on the Japan-China summit meeting. Regarding a “mutually beneficial relationship based on common strategic interests” which was mentioned by both leaders in their talks, Shii stated, “I paid attention to the fact that the Japanese and Chinese leaders reaffirmed the promotion of bilateral relations based on the four joint statements and agreed to find ways to solve pending issues between the two counries through consultation and dialogues.”

Furthermore, Shii stated, “As a party making to the Japanese and Chinese governments a proposal for positive breakthroughs in bilateral relations, the JCP strongly hopes that the two governments will examine the factors behind the strained ties and improve ties in a constructive manner.”
