JCP offers donations for relief in Chile quake

May 13, 2010
Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi on May 12 visited the Chilean Embassy in Tokyo to express his sympathy for Chile which was hit by a major earthquake last February and handed over to Miguel Poklepovic, charge d’affaires ad interim, the relief funds of over two million yen sent to the JCP head office.

Ichida said that the donation from individuals had such messages as “Wishing for the reconstruction of the fatherland of the poet Pablo Neruda” and “In solidarity with the people of Chile.” The relief money totaled 2,128,533 yen.

The ambassador thanked Ichida for the donation and the words of encouragement, referring to the difficulties facing the quake victims in Chile where the winter and rainy season will come soon. He said that the country is now making every effort to proceed with reconstruction with international support.

Ichida and the ambassador exchanged opinions over the political situation in Japan and the recent changes in Latin America.
