Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on April 16 sent the following message to Chinese President Hu Jintao to express sympathy for the earthquake victims in Qinghai Province.

“On hearing that the huge earthquake killed and injured many residents as houses collapsed in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu, Qinghai Province,
we would like to express our sorrow for the victims and condolences to their bereaved family members, and extend our sympathy toward the sufferers. We hope that the rescue and restoration operations in the devastated area will proceed smoothly so that the suffering people can put their lives back in order.”
