Shii holds talks with delegates of Arab Ambassadors Council

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on March 7 at the JCP Head Office received four delegates of the Arab Ambassadors Council, and shared views on the Palestinian issue and the nuclear issue in the Middle East.

Shii explained the JCP position on the Middle East question: Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied area; realization of the Palestinian right of national self-determination including the establishment of their independent state; and mutual recognition of the right of survival.

Palestine Ambassador Waleed Ali Siam called for the Japanese government’s support at the United Nations General Assembly over an independent state of Palestine and Japan’s cooperation to mutually upgrade diplomatic envoys.

Shii pledged to put pressure on the Japanese government to recognize an independent Palestinian state.

Ambassador Siam said that he is opposed both to Iran developing nuclear weapons and to Israel possessing nuclear weapons.

Shii also stressed that Israel’s threat to attack Iran by using the excuse of preventing nuclear weapons development should be foiled by all means. He stated that the JCP will cooperate in the effort to bring about international negotiations for a nuclear-free Middle East and the elimination of nuclear weapons as was agreed to in the 2010 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference.
