Shii says Democratic Party fails to explain what it would do if it takes power

September 9, 2008
On September 8, the day when Ozawa Ichiro was reelected as Democratic Party of Japan president for a third two-year term unopposed, Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo said the DPJ does not explain how it would change government policies if it takes power.

Speaking at a news conference in the Diet, Shii said, “The DPJ is calling for a transfer of political power. What changes are they going to bring about in domestic and foreign policy? We cannot see what they stand for. They haven’t yet answered this question.”

He said political change in Japan can only be achieved by ending the pro-big business policy and subservience to the United States. “Only the JCP offers concrete alternatives,” Shii added.
