Ichida criticizes ruling members’ inspection trip to Guam

February 13, 2010
Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi on February 12 criticized members of the three ruling parties for visiting Guam to ostensibly inspect a candidate site as replacement for the U.S. Futenma Air Station.

Ruling parties’ members, who are discussing where to relocate the U.S. Futenma base now located in Okinawa, on February 10 and 11 went to Guam.

Ichida stated, “It’s not our (Japanese) business to look for a site to place a U.S. military base.”

“If they have time for that and can afford to do that, they should negotiate with the United States in order to unconditionally remove its military bases from Japan based on demand of Okinawans and the general public. This is the only reasonable approach for Japan to take.”
