JCP collects donations for quake victims

July 18, 2007
The Japanese Communist Party launched a nationwide campaign to collect donations for victims of the earthquake that hit Niigata Prefecture on July 16.

JCP Chair Shii Kazuo and other JCP members on July 17 called for donations in front of JR Shinjuku Station in Tokyo. Many passers-by favorably responded to their calls by making contributions.

Shii said, “The Niigata area was hit by a severe earthquake three years ago. The victims who have been trying to get their lives back to normal are now faced with difficulties once again. While the government is required to take thoroughgoing measures to provide them with relief, as an opposition party the JCP will do whatever it can to help them.” - Akahata, July 18, 2007
