The National Association for a Peaceful, Democratic and Progressive Japan (Kakushinkon) adopted an appeal condemning the Abe administration which is pushing ahead with the Henoko base construction, in solidarity with Okinawans in an annual exchange meeting held in Chiba’s Narashino City on October 31 and November 1.
At the two-day meeting, a representative of the Okinawa Kakushinkon said that an overwhelming majority of Okinawans are supporting Governor Onaga Takeshi’s decision to revoke the Henoko landfill approval for the construction of another U.S. base in the prefecture. Stressing that the Henoko base project and the war legislation should be regarded as two sides of the same coin under the Abe administration, he said, “An increase in people’s support for Okinawans’ anti-base struggle and people’s movement to bring down the Abe government will open a bright future for Okinawans.”
An Osaka Kakushinkon representative reported on dictatorial methods implemented by Osaka City Mayor Hashimoto Toru at the local levels. He expressed his determination to work hard to put an end to the Hashimoto-style of politics in elections for the Osaka governor and the Osaka City mayor which are scheduled for November 22.
On the first day of the meeting, Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo spoke about the JCP proposal for a “national coalition government” and the prospects for realizing this proposal. On the following day, JCP Vice Chair Koike Akira made remarks at a workshop on how to achieve the revocation of the war legislation.
