2011 April 20 - 26 [NUCLEAR CRISIS]

Gov’t has still not received radiation data from TEPCO

April 23 & 26, 2011
The government has not yet obtained TEPCO’s primary data related to the Fukushima nuclear power plant crisis. Japanese Communist Party Dietmember Yoshii Hidekatsu pointed this out during the House of Representatives Committee on Economy, Trade, and Industry meeting on April 22.

Yoshii said that all data concerning the release of radiation is vital in order to deal appropriately with the nuclear crisis. He demanded the disclosure of all pertinent data.

However, Nuclear Safety Commission (NSC) Chair Madarame Haruki answered, “We have requested the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) twice to give us the necessary data, but we have not received them yet.”

NISA Director Terasaka Nobuaki replied, “That is because we have still been requesting TEPCO to submit the data.”

Yoshii then demanded that the government issue an order to TEPCO to submit the data.

Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Kaieda Banri answered, “Yes, based on the Nuclear Reactor Regulation Law, I will order TEPCO to submit all the data it has.”

The committee discussion that day also revealed that the government has no data related to: NISA’s Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) which concentrates on exhaust pipes and drain outlets; the accident Decision Support System (DPS); and the prediction analysis system.

Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Kaieda Banri on April 25 announced that he ordered TEPCO to submit to the government all the data it has regarding the Fukushima accident.

The minister said, “I issued a written order to TEPCO after JCP Yoshii Hidekatsu instructed us to do so in the House of Representatives committee meeting held on April 22. When TEPCO submits the data, I will report to the committee.”
