JCP criticizes Tokyo governor’s pro-nuclear weapons remark

Japanese Communist Party Tokyo assembly member Yoshida Nobuo on February 28 criticized Tokyo Governor Ishihara Shintaro for saying that Japan should conduct simulation tests of nuclear weapons.

“The governor’s credibility as the head of the capital of the only atomic-bombed nation is called into question,” said Yoshida at a Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly meeting on that day.

Ishihara made the controversial remark at a press conference on January 27. On February 24, he stated that the county should not just revise but abolish the pacifist Constitution and create a new one from scratch.

Yoshida condemned the governor’s remarks, saying that it “goes against the international trend that recognizes a world without nuclear weapons as a shared goal.”
