Osaka mayor Hashimoto criticizes Article 9

Osaka City Mayor Hashimoto Toru on March 5 denigrated Article 9 of the Constitution by saying that it is “based on the argument that peace can be maintained without doing anything so that we don’t have to be bothered to make efforts.”

The mayor made the remark in response to a reporter who asked him to clarify his earlier comment on Twitter which states: “In the world, there are numerous situations where people have to tackle difficulties at risk of their lives. But in Japan, they all refused to accept tsunami debris. This is all because of Article 9.”
