Six opposition parties/groups jointly denounce LDP's party politics

Six opposition parties and parliamentary groups held an assembly on April 20 in the Diet to denounce the ruling Liberal Democratic Party for causing a political vacuum by holding its presidential election during the Diet session.

Representatives of the Japanese Communist Party, the Democratic Party of Japan, the Social Democratic Party, the Liberal Party, and two parliamentary groups spoke at the meeting which was attended by 250 Dietmembers and their secretaries.

Speaking on behalf of the JCP, Chair Shii Kazuo said:

"The four LDP presidential election candidates were members of the second Hashimoto cabinet and are responsible for the economic recession. The LDP has done nothing to find the truth behind the KSD scandal, including the question of 'ghost' LDP members. Furthermore, it has made no reflection on the inappropriate uses of secret state funds involving the Foreign Ministry and the Cabinet Office."

Shii called on participants and the people to expose the fact that the LDP is not qualified at all to be a ruling party running Japan's politics.

Shii reiterated the JCP position that it will earnestly deal with cooperation among the opposition parties, and said:

"True, opposition parties have policy differences. In the elections, each of them should advance further their individual policies showing, how LDP politics can be changed. Let's overthrow the adverse LDP-Komei alliance in the election." (end)
