Japanese Communist Party's May Day slogans

The Japanese Communist Party's slogans for the 72nd May Day celebrations were as follows:

-- Raise personal purchasing power and overcome the economic crisis through three changes: a consumption tax rate cut to 3 percent (from the present 5 percent); a freeze on the adverse revision of social services; and job creation and promotion of smaller businesses by opposing corporate restructuring and eliminating unpaid overtime work.

-- A change in policy from one of benefiting major banks and general construction contractors to one of helping the people improve their livelihood.

-- Investigate into the KSD corruption scandal and the suspicions related to the Foreign Ministry's secret funds. Ban political donations from companies and organizations to root out corruption and graft.

-- Oppose adverse revisions of the Constitution. Defend Article 9 of the Constitution, our national pride.

-- Oppose invocation of the War Laws and wartime legislation.

-- Change Japan's foreign policy from one of subservience to the U.S. to one of national independence and peace.

-- Don't allow a new U.S. military base to be constructed in Okinawa. Put an end to Japan's military alliance with the U.S. and make Japan peaceful and neutral.
