Hiroshima hibakusha protest U.S. NMD plan
Hiroshima A-bomb survivors and peace activists took to the street on June 6 to collect signatures in protest against the U.S. national missile defense (NMD) plan, and in support of the call for a nuclear weapons-free world.
The action was organized as part of the monthly 6th and 9th day campaign (the dates when the U.S. dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki 56 years ago).
Twenty people of the Hiroshima Prefectural Council against A and H Bombs (Hiroshima Gensuikyo) and the Hiroshima Prefectural Confederation of A and H Bombs Sufferers Organizations (Hiroshima Hidankyo) took part in the campaign.
Arguing that the U.S. NMD plan will pave the way for a new nuclear arms race in space, participants called on passers-by to oppose the plan which runs counter to the world trend's towards nuclear weapons abolition. (end)
