JCP sets up task force on police supply of information to U.S. Forces
The Japanese Communist Party has set up an investigation committee on the
recent revelation that police have been providing information to the U.S.
Forces about local activities against U.S. warship visits to Japanese ports.
In the committee's first meeting on August 31, JCP House of Councilors
member Togashi Renzo said that the question is very serious because the
synchronization of the entry by U.S. warships to four different civil ports
on August 28 demonstrates that the Guidelines for Japan-U.S. Defense
Cooperation are being covertly put into practice.
The committee, chaired by JCP House of Representatives member Yamaguchi
Tomio, regarded the situation as unconstitutional and was determined to
probe further into the matter. (end)
