JCP Fuwa receives West Bengal chief minister

Fuwa Tetsuzo, Japanese Communist Party Central Committee chair received
Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, chief minister of India's West Bengal, at the JCP
head office on September 19. Bhattacharya, who is also a Polit Bureau member
of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), was visiting Japan.

They discussed ways to deal with the problems in the aftermath of the
terrorist attacks in the U.S. Fuwa showed him a copy of a JCP letter sent to
national government leaders around the world.

Fuwa explained that the JCP letter calls for international cooperation to
be formed to eradicate terrorism. He stressed the JCP's rejection of
military retaliation and the need to pursue justice based on international
law.

Bhattacharya said that the CPI(M) completely agreed with the JCP view. As
a political party of India, which is geographically close to Afghanistan and
neighbors on Pakistan, the CPI(M) is deeply concerned about great damage
that might be caused to the region in the event of military retaliation, he
said.

In the talks, both sides also discussed the political situation in Japan
and JCP activities; activities of the West Bengalese Government and its
tasks; the recent World Conference against A and H Bombs in Hiroshima, where
Bhattacharya plans to visit later; mutual solidarity in the anti-nuclear and
peace movements, and an annual August 6 peace rally in Calcutta, West
Bengal's capital. (end)
