Democratic lawyers' organization marks 80th founding anniversary

The Japan Lawyers Association for Freedom held a commemorative reception
on October 26 in Tokyo to mark its 80th founding anniversary. JLAF organizes
about 10 percent of Japan's lawyers.

About 650 people, mostly related to court struggles over labor disputes,
the environment and human rights, attended the reception.

Speaking on behalf of the Japanese Communist Party, Executive Committee
Chair Shii Kazuo stressed the significance of the JCP and the JLAF using the
same names before and after the war. He called on lawyers to now help work
out a legal settlement of the terrorist question at the international level.
