Women call for opposition to SDF dispatch bill
Calling on passers-by to oppose the Self-Defense Forces dispatch bill,
members of the "2001 Women's Year of the Constitution" carried out a street
campaign in front of Shibuya Station in Tokyo on October 25.
The campaign took place as part of the United Nations Disarmament Week
and Women's Action Day for Peace and Disarmament.
About 20 women activists, including A-bomb survivor Kurokawa Machiyo and
scriptwriter Terashima Akiko, took part in the action.
Dozens of women from many organizations, including the Japan YMCA and the
Japan Federation of Women's Organizations (Fudanren) collected signatures
petitioning the Diet to foil the bill, and delivered handbills calling for
the defense of the Constitution. (end)
