"Give us jobs" demonstration held in Tokyo
On November 30, the day when it became clear that Japan has over 3.5
million unemployed as of October, 2,000, many people marched in
demonstration in the daytime in Kasumigaseki where government ministries are
located.
"Give us jobs, end restructuring, and end joblessness" was what they
shouted out during their walk from Hibiya Park to the Diet building.
The demonstration was organized by five organizations, including a
non-profit organization called "Network of all who want to work."
Sasaki Hiroshi, the Network director, called on unemployed people to come
out of their isolation and join hands to secure their future. He said he
lost his job two years ago and knew that the state of being unemployed
causes major damage to personal dignity and is also a trap to isolate
people.
Construction workers who are suffering from loss of orders and former
construction workers formed a majority in the demonstration. (end)
