International symposium held
An international symposium was held from November 29-30 in Nago City in
Okinawa as part of the 2001 Japan Peace Conference.
The discussion was focused on two main issues of the day: "In pursuit of
new cooperation in the peace movement through the struggle to end the
retaliatory war, eradicate terrorism, and achieve world peace" and
"Grassroots efforts to build international cooperation for eliminating
damage caused by U.S. military bases in solidarity with Okinawans' struggle
against the construction of a new U.S. military base."
About 130 peace activists present at the symposium included nine
international representatives from South Korea, the Philippines, Malaysia,
Puerto Rico and Australia. (end)
