JCP chair lectures on parliamentary democracy at Keio University
On December 14, Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo was the first
JCP leader to give a lecture at Keio University, one of Japan's most
prestigious private universities with a long history. Parliamentary
democracy was the theme of the lecture he gave before 400 students.
The lecture was part of Keio University economics department's new course
on modern thought. Writer Oda Makoto was co-lecturer in the course.
Shii said parliamentary democracy is a product of human wisdom and that
the popular movements which brought it about should help develop it. He also
said that the people's struggles and citizens' movements hold the key to
getting parliamentary democracy to work for peace, not for war. (end)
