JCP Chair Shii meets with Russian diplomat
Japanese Communist Party Executive Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on January 28 received Mikhail Galuzin, recently assigned counselor-minister of the Embassy of the Russian Federation at the JCP head office.
Galuzin expressed hope that Japan-Russia peace talks will be continued and that bilateral relations be developed through cooperation in the economy, trade, and efforts to settle international problems.
Shii said that the JCP will continue to keep the Russian Embassy informed about its views on major international questions as a responsibility of an opposition party. He said further opinion exchanges with Russia will help to develop friendship and cooperation between the two peoples and help solve the Japan-Russia territorial question in an equitable way.
Shii also said that the JCP opposes both terrorism and military retaliation and stressed the need to establish a peace order based on international law centering on the United Nations, not allowing U.S. hegemony to prevail.
Nishiguchi Hikaru, JCP International Bureau director, and Alexandre V. Ilyshev, first secretary of the Russian Embassy, were present at the meeting. (end)
