Asia Net-Japan on history textbooks established
The Asia Network-Japan on history textbooks was established on February 2 in Tokyo, aimed at correcting distorted views of history textbooks in solidarity with Asian people.
The Children and Textbook Japan Network 21(represented by Tawara Yoshifumi), the Japan Network against War and Violence against Women (Matsui Yayori), and 18 other organizations from Japan, China, South Korea, North Korea, the Philippines, and a group of Korean residents in Japan, organized the new network.
Ji Myeong Kwan, Hanrim University Japan Institute director and Korea-Japan Cultural Exchange Council chair, made a speech, calling on participants to promote reconciliation between the Korean and Japanese peoples, so that an accurate history textbook will appear in Japan through mutual cooperation.
About 300 citizens concerned took part in the inaugural meeting. Tawara, representative of the network, announced that a forum on school textbooks used in Japan will be held in Nanjing in China on March 28 and 29, followed by forums in Tokyo, Seoul, and Pyongyang. (end)
