Japanese A and H bombs survivors' speech draws keen attention of Marshall Islanders

Relating their experiences in the tragic A and H bombings, Japanese survivors left a deep impression upon Pacific islanders.

Oishi Matashichi, former crew member of Daigo Fukuryu Maru, and Miwa Hiroshi, an A-bomb survivor of Nagasaki, made speeches in a ceremony held on March 1 in Marshall's capital Majuro to remember the 1954 Bikini tragedy.

Oishi recalled, "When we were fishing tuna, the fallout fell on us. Nearly half of the crew have died, and I myself had to have a liver cancer tumor taken out. My baby was stillborn." Miwa narrated the disastrous scene on the day of the A-bomb explosion in Nagasaki in 1945.

The two survivors called on the islanders to join forces to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons. (end)
