March for the late Kuboyama, victim of U.S. H-bomb test
Participants in the Bikini Day events on March 1 in Shizuoka Prefecture marched to the tomb of the late Kuboyama Aikichi, victim of the 1954 U.S. hydrogen bomb test at Bikini Atoll.
Kuboyama was a crew member of the Daigo Fukuryu Maru (5th Lucky Dragon), a tuna fishing boat, and was the first to die after being showered with the radioactive fallout from the U.S. hydrogen bomb test explosion. His dying words were "No more victims of nuclear weapons."
Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Councilors Ogata Yasuo spoke at a ceremony held in front of Kuboyama's grave. (end)
