U.S. cluster bombs discovered in Okinawa
The U.S. Forces in Japan stores cluster bombs, which a U.N. resolution bans the production and use of, on the U.S. Kadena Air Base in Okinawa.
Nakamura Shigekazu, Japanese Communist Party member of the Chatan Town Assembly, on February 15 witnessed the bombs being carried in a trailer truck from the Kadena munitions depot to the Kadena base through a passage under a public road.
The U.S. Navy public affairs office in Okinawa admitted that the weapons are believed to be MK-20, a type of cluster bomb.
Nakamura said, "The U.S. dropped cluster bombs on Afghanistan, killing many innocent people. The presence of cluster bombs in the Kadena base means that the base is used as a foothold for such brutal military attacks. I can't tolerate it." (end)
