F-16 from U.S. Misawa Base crashes
A U.S. F-16 fighter jet from the U.S. Misawa Air Base in northern Japan crashed into the Sea of Japan off Aomori Prefecture on April 15.
Similar accidents of Misawa's F-16 fighter jets have happened eight times since 1987, and four years straight since 1999, including the latest one.
The Peace Committee and the Action Committee against the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty in Hachinohe City sent a telegram to the commander of the U.S. Misawa Air Base demanding the removal of F-16 fighter jets and the Misawa Base itself.
The Akita Peace Committee presumes that the crashed F-16 might have been engaged in a dog-fight drill over the Sea of Japan just as fighter jets from Misawa have always done. (end)
