Gensuikyo movement to focus on opposition to U.S. nuclear war policy and Japan's wartime legislation
The National Standing Committee of the Japan Council against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo) held its regular meeting in Tokyo on April 19 and 20 to discuss ways to strengthen movements at the grassroots level involved in the 2002 World Conference against A & H Bombs. The discussion focused on the struggles against the Bush administration's policy of using nuclear weapons and the Japanese wartime bills.
Gensuikyo General Secretary Takakusagi Hiroshi stated that after Bush's "axis of evil" threat and the revelation of his new strategy that includes the possible use of nuclear weapons, criticism of the Bush administration has been quickly spreading throughout the world. He said this offers better conditions for increasing cooperation in the movement.
Referring to the struggle against the wartime bills which will force Japanese people into cooperating with U.S. wars, Takakusagi stressed the importance of informing more Japanese people of the Bush administration's nuclear policy.
The Gensuikyo National Standing Committee adopted a resolution demanding an immediate withdrawal of the wartime bills. (end)
