Young people join national peace meeting in Osaka
Young people from all over the country gathered in Osaka on May 3 to attend "Peace Egg 2002," an annual three-day meeting organized by the Japan Peace Committee.
On May 3, about 250 participants attended a panel discussion. Members of the "Peace & Art Network," a group of young artists in Tokyo which calls for peace through art, introduced their outdoor art shows with slides.
The chief of the Japan Islamic Trust which sends relief supplies to Afghanistan, showed scenes of refugee camps he videotaped.
Anzai Ikuro, director of the Kyoto Museum for World Peace, Ritsumeikan University, stated that the wartime legislation will thwart young people's desire to do whatever they want to do.
Participants also attended several other discussions and other activities on the next 2 days. (end)
