2002 World Conference against A & H Bombs organizing committee holds general meeting
The Organizing Committee of the World Conference against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs on May 15 held its 52nd general meeting in Tokyo to discuss specific agenda items and programs for this year's world conference.
Participants confirmed that as part of preparation for the World Conference in August they will strengthen movements demanding that the Bush administration give up its policy of using nuclear weapons and implement the "unequivocal undertaking to accomplish the total elimination of nuclear weapons."
In the discussion, Akamatsu Koichi, representative director of the Japan Council against A & H Bombs (Gensuikyo), pointed out that more and more people in the world are critical of the U.S. government's refusal to comply with international law and order. To stop outrageous U.S. actions, the people and governments of the world are called upon to jointly develop movements at the grass roots level, he stressed.
The 2002 World Conference against A & H Bombs will be held from August 2 to 9 in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. (end)
