All 6 JCP candidates elected in Tokyo's Tachikawa
All six candidates of the Japanese Communist Party on June 16 won their seats in the Tachikawa City Assembly in Tokyo.
The JCP got 9,992 votes (14.65 percent of turnout), surpassing by 1,800 the votes it got in the 2001 Upper House proportional representation election.
In the election campaign, the JCP called for improvement of living conditions and the education system before spending for the construction of a new city hall. They proposed that the city administration review the plan with citizens' participation. They expressed their opposition to the contingency bills and the adverse revision of the medical insurance system, and had discussions with many citizens.
In contrast, the Komei Party could hardly refer to the national policy and repeated contemptible anti-communist actions. However, the Komei increased by one seat to seven. (end)
