Komei Party in local assemblies obstructs resolutions against contingency bills
The Komei Party has instructed all its local assembly members to obstruct adoption of resolutions in local assemblies calling for thorough discussions of or opposition to the contingency bills.
Following the party's Local Assembly Bureau directions issued on June 6, Komei local assembly members are acting as frantic promoters of the contingency legislation. In some assemblies, they have proposed a statement calling for enactment of the contingency bills.
At the Uji City Assembly in Kyoto Prefecture, the Japanese Communist Party, the Democratic Citizens Network, and others jointly submitted a resolution calling for thorough discussion of the contingency bills. In order to obstruct the resolution, the Komei Party issued a statement which demands an enactment of the bills.
The City Assembly adopted the resolution because even the Liberal Democratic Party supported it. Only Komei Party members voted for the statement they proposed.
At the Yawata City Assembly in Kyoto Prefecture, a statement in support of the contingency legislation which was proposed by the Komei Party and supported by the LDP was voted down, and instead, a statement submitted by four parties including the JCP urging sufficient Diet discussion of the legislation was adopted.
In Nagano Prefecture where 68 local assemblies have adopted resolutions in opposition to the legislation or calling for a full discussion in the Diet, the Komei Party Sanada Town Branch petitioned the town assembly to call on the Diet to adopt the contingency bills. But the town assembly adopted a statement calling for a thorough discussion which only the Komei Party voted against. (end)
