Dietmembers across party lines work together for equal treatment of part-time workers
A parliamentary group calling for the equal treatment of part-time workers, founded by the Dietmembers across party lines, on July 1 adopted a statement at its symposium in Tokyo regarding the final report of the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare.
The statement suggests that the current law on part-time employment should be revised so that it will prevent part-time workers from being discriminated against in working hours and employment duration.
The serious economic recession has created another 2 million part-time workers in Japan. Being treated unfavorably compared with full-time workers or getting fired arbitrarily, they have been forced to work in very unstable conditions. (end)
