JCP will go all-out in parliamentary mid-term elections
Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo at a news conference on July 3 announced that the JCP will contest seats in all five constituencies in the interim national elections scheduled for October 27 and fight full-force to achieve a JCP advance.
"Of the five, three are constituencies that hold elections after their Dietmembers resigned over money-for-favor scandals. The elections will be the first to pass judgment on the Prime Minister Koizumi Jun'ichiro-led government," Shii pointed out.
Regarding election cooperation with other parties, Shii explained that the opposition parties at present are unable to reach policy agreement with the JCP on a give-and-take basis. Shii said that the JCP will appeal extensively to voters on its own proposals for reform in Japan.
The five constituencies are: House of Representatives Yamagata No. 4 District; House of Representatives Kanagawa No. 8 District; House of Representatives Osaka No. 10 District; House of Councilors Chiba Constituency; and House of Councilors Tottori Constituency. (end)
