JCP Ogata elected vice chair of Parliamentarians League for exchange with ASEAN

The House of Councilors Members League to Promote Dialogue with AIPO was established on July 24 under the recognition that a development of friendly and cooperative relationship between Japan and ASEAN nations is important for peace and prosperity in Asia.

The AIPO or ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organization is parliamentarians league for exchange and dialogues in ASEAN nations.

The Japan-AIPO Parliamentarians League was founded at the House of Councilors Speaker's Official Residence, with some 50 Dietmembers taking part.

Ogata Yasuo of the Japanese Communist Party was elected the League's vice chair.

At a ceremony held after the founding meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador Yu Dung made a speech on behalf of the ten ambassadors of ASEAN nations in Tokyo attending the ceremony. (end)
