Symposium for preserving war remains held
As part of the movement to preserve the remains and records of WWII to pass on the memories of the war to future generations, a national symposium for conserving war remains took place in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture on August 24 and 25.
About 200 people participated in the first day's meeting. Murakami Akiyoshi, representative of the national network to preserve war remains, stated in his keynote speech that the importance of remains of the last war has been increasing as the number of people who experienced the war has been decreasing.
"Our struggle is not only to preserve objects but to protect peace from the viewpoint of the Japanese Constitution," Murakami said.
In the meeting, a delegate from a group working for the preservation of war remains in Nagano, talked about the necessity of holding peace activities for young generations as wartime legislation is being discussed.
Yu Binli, vice-president of the Museum of Revolution in Heilongjiang, northeast China, reported on the remains of war in the northeastern region of China. (end)
