JCP wins 24 seats in Okinawa
In the September 8 simultaneous local elections in Okinawa Prefecture, the Japanese Communist Party got 24 seats, a decrease of six compared with four years ago.
Thirty-four JCP candidates in 25 cities, towns, and villages promised that they will work in the assemblies so as to reduce public health insurance premium and nursing care premiums and service fees, and to establish an Okinawa without U.S. military bases.
The JCP maintained their previous seats in Ginowan, Ishikawa, and Ishigaki cities. In Nago City, however, both an incumbent and a new candidate failed to be returned although JCP votes there were still 1.17 times that of four years ago. On the other hand, the JCP lost one seat in Okinawa and Gushikawa cities respectively. (end)
