Residents group calls for cancellation of NLP at Yokota Base
A group of residents of towns adjacent to the U.S. Yokota Air Base on October 9 requested Japan's Defense Agency and the U.S. forces in Japan to cancel the U.S. Navy's plan to use the Yokota base for touch-and-go practices called Night Landing Practice (NLP).
The U.S. forces in Japan have decided to use the Yokota Base for NLPs from October 18 to 22 in case bad weather prevents them from carrying out the practice in Iojima, Japanese island in the Pacific.
Members of the group, who have feared noise and incidents in and around the Yokota Base on a daily basis, insisted that they cannot tolerate their living environment to be even worsened by the new practice. (end)
