U.S. forces ignore residents opposition to noisy touch-and-go practices
Again, the U.S. forces disregarded the residents' demands for a quiet night.
The U.S. Navy held touch-and-go exercises for three days from October 20 at a U.S. military base located in the middle of densely populated Yamato and Ayase cities in Kanagawa Prefecture.
Field Carrier Landing Practice (FCLP), also called night-landing practice (NLP), took place at U.S. Atsugi Naval Air Station for three days, causing noise levels that are unbearable to nearby residents.
The NLP started at 6:00 p.m. Aircraft from the U.S. aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk flew in and repeated touch-and-goes at an interval of five minutes until 10:00 p.m.
Local peace committee members monitored the exercise near the north end of the runway. Joined by Hatano Kimie, Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Councilors, and JCP local assembly members, they protested at the U.S. base. (end)
