JCP in Nagano holds discussion on ways to save local economy
Keen on finding ways to revitalize the local economy of a city in central Japan, about 90 people, including influential business leaders, local lawmakers, and workers, attended a meeting on November 9 to discuss "Jobs and the Regional Economy" held by the Japanese Communist Party Nagano Prefectural Committee.
Suzaka City in Nagano Prefecture is adversely affected by the on-going corporate restructuring by Fujitsu Ltd., a major electronics maker, involving massive job cuts.
Local business leaders, small business people, and shop owners responded favorably to the JCP's invitation to the discussion since they are seriously searching for a way to economic recovery.
Yamashita Yoshiki, director of the JCP Central Committee's task force on the struggle to defend jobs against corporate restructuring, emphasized that the need now is to struggle together.
He also stated that those who struggle for jobs and regional economic recovery must have a plan to achieve it without counting on large corporations such as Fujitsu for assistance. (end)
