Panelists at Peace Conference events protest against U.S. Embassy
Panelists at the international symposium (Nov. 21, and 22) of the Japan Peace Conference, on November 25 visited the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo to request that the U.S. government for work for a peaceful solution to the Iraq question.
Joanne Comerford (American Friends Service Committee, U.S.A.) and Lee Yujin (Green Korea United, South Korea) were joined by representatives of the New Japan Women's Association and the Japan Peace Committee.
They insisted that the Iraq question be solved in accordance with UNSC resolution 1441 and within the U.N. framework.
Lee Yujin referred to South Korean's anger against the recent jury's not guilty verdict on the U.S. sergeant involved in the deaths of S. Korean girls, and also stated that the U.S. military must stop attacking Iraq.
Comerford stated that the United States must stick to a position of non-violence in dealing with the Iraq issue. It should be resolved not by unilateralism but within the U.N. framework, she emphasized. (end)
