JCP representatives meet with Lao national assembly vice-president
Ogata Yasuo, Japanese Communist Party International Bureau director, and Kasai Akira, JCP International Bureau vice-director, held talks with Laotian National Assembly Vice-president Pany Yathotou at the parliament house in Vientiane on November 28.
Welcoming the JCP representatives, Pany said Laos is thankful for the support and assistance the Japanese people and the JCP extended to the Laotian people in the past struggle against the U.S. war of aggression, adding that her country is seeking to build international cooperation for peace.
Recalling the history of solidarity the JCP and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) shared in the struggle to defend the right to self-determination of the Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Laotian peoples, Ogata expressed hope that the lessons from this experience will be further developed in carrying out the present tasks.
Ogata, who is vice-chairman of the House of Councilors' Parliamentarians League for the Promotion of Dialogue with the ASEAN Asian Inter-Parliamentary Organization (AIPO) stated that he would like to enhance cooperation between the JCP and the LPRP through ASEAN activities. (end)
