JCP sends message to Communist Party of Sri Lanka congress
The Japanese Communist Party Central Committee sent the following message to the 17th Congress of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka which was held from December 20-22 in Colombo.
We are delighted at Sri Lanka's peace process making progress through national efforts, which have brought about a cease-fire agreement to end the protracted civil war with the view to achieving a political resolution to the ethnic problem. Resolving this problem politically not only establishes a firm basis for Sri LankaÕs social progress, but also contributes to the international efforts which aim for peaceful resolution of disputes. We hope that your Congress will be an event that will further strengthen the effort to end the civil war.
We envisage a 21st century in which the current of peace can be further developed by the peoples of the world. On the other hand, the U.S. Bush administration has made it clear that it would not hesitate to unilaterally launch military attacks on any country in the world even without U.N. decisions. It is pushing on with its plan to attack Iraq. The JCP strongly demands that the U.S. abandon the plan of a unilateral military attack, and that the Iraqi government sincerely implement the U.N. resolutions without condition. The JCP is working in this way to strengthen international cooperation to solve the Iraq question strictly within the framework of the U.N.
This century will also see capitalism with the profit-first principle being called into question. There is no question that the historical progress humanity has won in the 20th century such as the advance of democracy and human rights, the democratic regulations on the capitalist system and the world order for peace based on the U.N. Charter will never fail to constitute a strong basis for humanityÕs advance into a new social system. In Japan, a highly developed capitalist country, we are working with this perspective, and based on the position of the Òrevolution by the majorityÓ which can be described as a step-by-step approach by winning the support of the majority of people, and developing exchanges and dialogue with a wide range of people. The JCP is working to achieve an immediate task of establishing a democratic government at the early part of the 21st century.
We hope that your Congress will be fruitful in realizing the aspirations of the Sri Lankan people, as well as promoting peace in Asia and the rest of the world. (end)
