JCP Shii talks with Sri Lanka's opposition leader
The Japanese Communist Party delegation to South Asian countries led by Chair Shii Kazuo on December 20 met with Mahinda Rajapaksa, leader of the Opposition of Sri Lanka.
Rajapaksa agreed with Shii that the Iraq question should be solved within the United Nations framework. Shii said, "Let's work together for peace," and shook hands with Rajapaksa.
Stressing the need to abolish all nuclear weapons, Rajapaksa expressed willingness to actively cooperate with the World Conference against A & H Bombs, which is held every August in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
After the meeting, the JCP delegation met with Baddegama Samitha, a monk and member of parliament, who attended the 2002 World Conference against A & H Bombs. (end)
