Entrance exam disturbed by U.S. low-altitude flights
U.S. military aircraft repeated low-altitude flights over Okinawa Prefecture on January 18 without regard for the preliminary university entrance examination taking place at Ryukyu University.
The Japan Scientists' Association (JSA) Okinawa Branch on the same day issued a statement urging the U.S. forces to refrain from carrying out such disturbing flights.
Kameyama Norikazu, secretary general of the JSA Okinawa, said that the U.S. aircraft, including P3C patrol planes, kept flying at low altitudes over the Ryukyu University while the test-takers tackled problems of geographic history, math-I and math-II.
Arguing that it was unreasonable for the examinees to take the exam in such roaring noise, Kameyama stressed, "The only way to solve this problem is to remove all U.S. military bases from Japan." (end)
