More than 20,000 listen to Fuwa Tetsuzo's call for JCP advance in elections
The Japanese Communist Party of Tokyo held a major JCP speech assembly on February 8 at the Nippon Budokan arena as part of the effort to make preparations for nationwide local elections in April.
More than 20,000 people listened to JCP Central Committee Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo, who spoke about the JCP's role on wide-ranging issues, from the economy to world peace and local politics.
Fuwa emphasized that the JCP is the only party capable of showing clear objectives to the people. "All the other parties are unable to come up with strategic purposes in both domestic and diplomatic policies," he said.
Referring to recent achievements the JCP has made in Tokyo in such areas as social services and the cancellation of wasteful public works projects, Fuwa stated, "Residents' demands have been achieved thanks to JCP local assembly members' activities in cooperation with residents."
In concluding his speech, Fuwa drew attention to the desperate attempt by the forces of reaction to check JCP advances and said, "Let us take the initiative to ensure our victory by creating a ground swell of the grassroots effort to change Tokyo."
Film Director Koyama Seijiro said, "An increase in the number of JCP local assembly members means a change in Japanese society."
A 60-year old woman among the audience said, "I now realize that the JCP has prescriptions to cure various illnesses such as carrying out its own diplomacy to deal with the Iraq problem for the cause of peace and helping to improve school facilities." (end)
